Applying Tests of Equivalence for Multiple Group Comparisons: Demonstration of the Confidence Interval Approach - Practical Assessment, Research & Evaluation
نویسنده
چکیده
Assessing the comparability of different groups is an issue facing many researchers and evaluators in a variety of settings. Commonly, null hypothesis significance testing (NHST) is incorrectly used to demonstrate comparability when a non-significant result is found. This is problematic because a failure to find a difference between groups is not equivalent to showing that the groups are comparable. This paper provides a comparison of the confidence interval approach to equivalency testing and the more traditional analysis of variance (ANOVA) method using both continuous and rating scale data from three geographically separate medical education teaching sites. Equivalency testing is recommended as a better alternative to demonstrating comparability through its examination of whether mean differences between two groups are small enough that these differences can be considered practically unimportant and thus, the groups can be treated as equivalent.

متن کاملA Robust Desirability-based Approach to Optimizing Multiple Correlated Responses
There are many real problems in which multiple responses should be optimized simultaneously by setting of process variables. One of the common approaches for optimization of multi-response problems is desirability function. In most real cases, there is a correlation structure between responses so ignoring the correlation may lead to mistake results. Hence, in this paper a robust approach based ...
متن کاملImpact of Sample Size and Variability on the Power and Type I Error Rates of Equivalence Tests: A Simulation Study - Practical Assessment, Research & Evaluation
The question of equivalence between two or more groups is frequently of interest to many applied researchers. Equivalence testing is a statistical method designed to provide evidence that groups are comparable by demonstrating that the mean differences found between groups are small enough that they are considered practically unimportant. Few recommendations exist regarding the appropriate use ...

Introduction: Computer Assisted Instruction has been used widely in nursing and medical education. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of computer assisted instruction in comparison with demonstra-tion on learning vital signs measurement in nursing students. Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, all first year nursing students in nursing school of Tabriz (n=30), participated...
متن کاملAssessment of Green Supplier Development Programs by a New Group Decision-Making Model Considering Possibilistic Statistical Uncertainty
The assessment and selection of green supplier development programs are an intriguing and functional research subject. This paper proposes a group decision-making approach considering possibilistic statistical concepts under uncertainty to assess green supplier development programs (GSDPs) via interval-valued fuzzy sets (IVFSs). Possibility theory is employed to regard uncertainty by IVFSs. A n...
